Soulwithaview Musical Advent Calendar

Proof, if you needed it, that music has always been very special to me...also...cake!

There are lots of things that I’ve missed during 2020!

I’ve missed regularly seeing my parents.

I’ve missed catching up with friends.

I’ve missed the ‘normal’ things of life.

How about you?

What have you missed?

Something I didn’t expect to miss was music, not just creating it, but listening to it! During the various stages of lockdown the house has been filled with music but very little of it was chosen by me. Hamilton’s Schuyler sisters have competed with Disney’s Descendents alongside the occasional interlude of Leeds United 'Marching on Together'. When I’ve retreated to my office to work, the main sound has been my Uni lecturers or an audiobook on double speed while preparing for a late essay.

It’s been a long time since I just enjoyed music.

How about you?

I hold my hands up and admit that this year’s soulwithaview Musical Advent Calendar is an act of pure self-indulgence. Every day I’ll be posting a Christmas song on the soulwithaview Facebook page for you to enjoy, sing to, rest in or reflect on. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks listening to the Christmas songs I love and compiling the Advent playlist. It’s been absolute bliss and reminded me just how important music is to lift our souls and help us to worship. I hope God will use the music I have chosen to bless you throughout this Advent season. Even though creating music is on hold, we can still worship in our cars, our workplaces, or even while we’re putting up the Christmas tree.

We may all feel a little isolated in these unusual times but God is still here with us, speaking through His word and His music.

Jerusalem will be told:

“Don’t be afraid.

Dear Zion,

Your God is present among you,

a strong Warrior there to save you.

Happy to have you back, he’ll calm you with his love

and delight you with his songs.

Zephaniah 3:16-17 MSG
