Sing of Your Love Forever

Singing has always played a central part in how I worship and express my faith.

From an early age, my home and church were filled with music.

At times of joy, pain, exasperation, confusion, or delight music has accompanied my life.

This picture has been shared before on the blog, but for those who need photographic evidence of my long-time obsession with music, may I present Exhibit A?

I’ve cranked up the volume in my car singing “I’ll see you do it again” at the top of my voice.

I’ve sat at the piano crafting lyrics and music that express things I can barely put into words.

I’ve felt the full force of a brass band fill a room with ‘O love that will not let me go’.

I’ve conducted a choir of young people’s voices declaring ‘He will hold me fast’.

There are so many examples where music and song have fuelled my worship of the God I love.

How about you?

What songs connect you to God?

What lyrics bring you into his presence as you worship?

What song do you celebrate with?

What song holds you as you lament?

Over the years of writing this blog, I’ve shared many, many songs…yes, I know most of them have been by Nichole Nordeman before you say anything!

To get me back in the writing mood I’m going to spend the next few weeks sharing new music I’ve discovered recently. It might not be new to you, but it’s music that is inspiring me to worship, praise, lament, reflect, and do all the things the Psalmist calls us to do.

Each week I’ll share a short thought, a link for a song, and connect it to a Scripture.

It will be short and sweet but full of the wonderful music God has created through his people.

The first song is one I’ve sung for many years, and it always makes me smile.

‘I could sing of your love forever’ was originally recorded in 1995 by the Christian group Delirious? (formerly known as The Cutting Edge Band).

Now, 1995 is a depressingly long time ago, but I recently discovered a new version of this Christian classic. Called Out Music has given this staple of the ‘contemporary music’ playlist a new life.

The song reminds us to daily lift our hands in praise.

There may be days when we don’t feel much like praising, but the Psalmist reminds us that worship is an integral part of our daily lives.

I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

Psalm 104:33 (NIV)

So, grab a cuppa, put your feet up, and let these beautiful words of worship fill your heart with praise.
