Pathfinder - Psalm 119:105

God with us - Week 48: Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet

and a light for my path.

Psalm 119:105 (NLT)

Again, we fall upon familiar words that we’ve heard many times before.

Again, I ask that we take a moment to look at them with fresh eyes.

Looking at Psalm 119:105, one question came to mind.

  • What are my pathfinders?

  • Which scriptures has God used to light my path and move me forward?

I sat and reflected on the forty-five years I’ve clocked up so far and asked God to remind me of my pathfinders. Although many of them are associated with times of darkness, this time of reflection was moving and uplifting.

God with us…with me…in all those moments…guiding…providing pathfinders!

Here are just a few.

When I couldn’t see the point of me!

Pathfinder

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

Psalm 139:14 (NIVUK)

When I couldn’t see a way through a challenging situation.

Pathfinder

I am creating something new. There it is! Do you see it?

I have put roads in deserts, streams in thirsty lands.

Isaiah 43:19 (CEV)

When anxiety crept in.

Pathfinder

25 King David said this about him:

‘I see that the Lord is always with me.

I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.

26 No wonder my heart is glad,

and my tongue shouts his praises!

My body rests in hope.

Acts 2:25-26 (NLT)

When the injustice of it all felt unbearable.

Pathfinder

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

Exodus 14:14 (NIVUK)

When I felt my prayers would never be answered.

Pathfinder

Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer.

Daniel 10:12 (NLT)

When I wanted to retaliate.

Pathfinder

She is clothed with strength and dignity,

and she laughs without fear of the future.

Proverbs 31:25 (NLT)

When I fell into the trap of works instead of grace.

Pathfinder

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.

Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.

Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)

When I lost my purpose.

Pathfinder

Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”

Matthew 22:37-40 (MSG)

These are my pathfinders, given by God to me when I was lost and needed His light to guide my way.

  • What are your pathfinders?

  • Which Scripture has lifted your head from the darkness and provided a way forward?

Scripture is not just words on a page; it’s light to guide our way.

If there are places of darkness in your life at the moment, then stop, resist the temptation to keep trying to find the way on your own.

Ask God for a scripture that will fill your situation with His light of hope.

Ask God for words that will provide a way forward.

Ask God for a pathfinder.

Truth’s shining light guides me in my choices and decisions;

the revelation of your Word makes my pathway clear.

Psalm 119:105 (TPT)
