Day 23 - A Gift for All

There are different types of gifts.

We might buy a gift for someone, simply because we know that they are going to buy us a gift.

We can also give gifts, not because we expect a gift in return but so we can ask for a favour later on.

When love is absent from gift-giving, it simply becomes the fulfilling of an obligation. There is very little joy or satisfaction in giving those kinds of gifts. Finding the gift becomes a chore and giving it becomes an empty act.

But there are the gifts that we have taken time over. We have considered the person we are buying for – is there something that is particularly precious to them?

Giving and receiving gifts of love is one of the major human experiences of joy.

Jesus is God’s perfect, indescribable gift – the gift of hope, love, joy, peace and salvation wrapped up in the form of a human baby.

The brilliant news is that this gift is for everyone… and when we have accepted God’s gift for ourselves, it is our joy not to hold on to what we know but to share Jesus with others.

"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!"

2 Corinthians 9:15
