I love lights!
Each Christmas I’m sure my husband must shudder as a new ‘light-bringing’ ornament or decoration is smuggled into the house. I’m the one who places the twinkling white lights on the hedges outside and have been known to struggle up the ladder to the guttering in the desire to be the house which shines the most brightly! When my daughter was little, we would drive around the local area looking at other people’s lights and gazing in wonder like moths to a flame. For me, there is something so attractive about a light shining in the darkness.
I was so taken by this verse and the image of the lighthouse that I even made the word ‘SHINE’ the motto for our school. I am challenged to turn the community that I spend my life working for into a beacon; a refuge, a place of security. For the light that emanates from our building to be as far-reaching as the sweeping light of the lighthouse
Like the Christmas lights, we are called to shine. To be so attractive and radiant in our interactions with others that Christ is evident. It’s a challenge for all of us who identify as ‘Christian’. We’ve been given an amazing gift- our God in the form of a tiny baby.
At Christmas, let’s go public with this: Let your light shine!
As for me… I’m off to find a new LED reindeer!
