Part ten in the 1 Corinthians 13 series.
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen social media posts relating to the fact that adulting is hard. These tend to come from twenty-somethings who are just out of University and starting life on their own. I don’t point this out in a patronising way as I have discovered that each decade reveals another layer of adulting we never knew existed. In our thirties we begin to see our parents differently, marvelling at the way they raised us while navigating their own lives and keeping the family up and running. Then when we hit our forties we are greeted with the concept of adulting while in a constant state of tiredness…just me? I’ve heard that from our fifties onwards we care less about what people think so I’m hoping that part of adulting is true.
I know I don’t paint a particularly rosy picture of life but let’s face it…adulting is hard sometimes!
While driving home from the school run, my mind was whirring over a current adulting issue I’m facing. As I went around the continuous loop of giving God possible solutions to the problem, I heard a little voice singing in the back of the car.
Where are you going?
Don’t leave me alone?

For those of you who don’t live with a six-year-old, these are the lyrics from the new Frozen 2 movie that have been playing repeatedly in our house for the past fortnight. My little girl's voice cut through the whirring in my head and challenged me to stop.
I was reasoning like a child.
There are lots of things that we don’t know about the future but as our faith matures, we can stand on what we know about our God. As Paul wrote to the Corinthians, there will be a time when we no longer search for knowledge or wisdom from God to complete the picture. We won't need the answers to our questions as God’s kingdom will be fully revealed here on earth.
For now, ‘Waymaker’ is the song I play on a continuous loop.
When I’m scrambling to find answers to my many questions, this song reminds me exactly who our God is.
Way maker

Promise keeper
Light in the darkness
That is who You are.
